Coronavirus: More than half of those not vaccinated against COVID-19 do not have antibodies according to the study – Aktuality.sk

This follows from a study that was carried out in several localities in Slovakia with almost 4,000 participants. At the same time, half of the people who had antibodies had only low values. The epidemiologist Alexandra Bražinová and the representatives of the institutions who participated in the study informed about it on Tuesday.

“The aim was to find out the level of antibodies in people who are not vaccinated,” says epidemiologist Bražinová about the new study. Participation in it was on a voluntary basis.

Juraj Kopáček, Scientific Director of the Institute of Virology of the Biomedical Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, explained that a total of five institutions participated in the study: Ministry of Health, Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Faculty of Medicine, UJPŠ, Biomedical Center of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. “We are able to do another study,” Kopáček added.

According to the epidemiologist Bražinová, samples were taken from persons from the age of 12, and each of them then received a result on the level of antibodies.

A large number of people do not have protection against COVID-19, ”explains Matej Mišík, director of the Institute of Health Analysis of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic.

“These numbers must be taken with a grain of salt,” stressed mathematician Richard Kollár. “There is a relatively rapid decline in antibody levels.”

The findings show that about a third of those who have survived the coronavirus asymptomatic do not have antibodies present.

The highest immunity over 60 years is in Bratislava, it represents 85%. In the Lučenec district, the weakest immune group is from 12 to 19 years old, which is at the level of 39%. They show the results of the study.

Experts recommend that those who have survived the coronavirus be vaccinated.
