Slovak skier Petra Vlhová was in sixth place after the start of the opening twenty-first round of Tuesday’s huge World Cup slalom.

In Courchevel, France, she was 1.39 seconds behind American leader Mikaela Shiffrin. The second place was the Swiss Michelle Gisin (+0.74), the third place belonged to the Swedish Sare Hector (+1.03).

The 26-year-old Slovak national team returned to the competition slopes after a break of more than three weeks. She opened the race with start number 1 and set competitive split times at the top. However, in the approach to the plain, she late turned into one of the curves, came out of the optimal track and lost speed in the key part.

Shiffrin ideally timed short curves from the first goal, adding the necessary dynamics along the entire course. She kept her great rhythm until the finish line and gradually increased her lead. The competitors were grazing with aggressive snow, they paid for the grooves in it with the elimination of Slovenian Meta Hrovatová and Italian Marta Bassinová. The Italian Federica Brignone (+1.06) and the Norwegian Mina Fürst Holtmann (+1.26) also preceded Vlhová.
