Often pushed by the restrictive measures against the unvaccinated, nearly a year after the arrival of vaccines, some French people finally take the step of the first injection.

“Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 52,544,638 people have received at least one injection” of vaccine against Covid-19 writes the Ministry of Health in its latest press release. And since the beginning of December, more than 20,000 people are taking the daily step to go to receive their first dose, 35,042 in the day of Monday.

The Doctolib site noted an increase in appointments for a first vaccination, with 26,153 reservations this Monday, against less than 15,000 the previous days.

The transformation announced for early 2022 from the health pass into a vaccination pass has indeed convinced some to receive an injection, even if it is seen as a constraint.

“Either you get vaccinated, or you don’t live anymore”

Serge, suffering from cancer, and Liliane, diabetic, have made an appointment for the first injection in recent days, in a vaccination center in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes). At over 66 years of age, they are nevertheless part of the priority audiences, more at risk of developing serious forms of the disease.

Serge “has a treatment with chemotherapy”, explains Liliane, and “we hear so much that we do not know on which foot to dance, what side effects … Because he has a lot of pathologies”.

This first dose, “I cried before coming but we have no choice”, also explains to our branch Amel, who has an appointment for his first dose. For her, “we do not know what is in” the vaccine, and the announcement of the vaccination pass “is blackmail. It is either you get vaccinated, or you no longer live. So when we find ourselves blocked like that we have to “.

At the beginning of the month, following the opening of the third dose to all French people, some non-vaccinated had also taken the first dose, for fear of being too constrained in their daily life, while they are not convinced by the vaccine.

“I answered his questions, what the vaccine consisted of, how it was injected, how it worked …”, explains Jean-Marc Gelot, doctor at the vaccination center in Grasse. “You have to adapt all the same to listen to what she says and be able to answer the questions simply, but at the same time being precise”.

There are still around 6 million unvaccinated people in France, although 90.9% of the eligible population has received at least one dose.
