Hong Kong, 5 pro-democracy reporters arrested

About 500 policemen have been sent by the Hong Kong authorities to the editorial office of Jimmy Lai’s pro-democracy newspaper ‘Apple Daily’, accused of violating national security law. Director Ryan Law and four other executives were arrested during the raid. Assets valued at Hong Kong dollars 18 million equal to US $ 2.3 million of assets owned by three companies affiliated with Apple Daily were also frozen. The newspaper broadcast the raid live on his Facebook account. At a press conference, the police said that since 2019 Apple Daily has published more than 30 articles calling on countries to impose sanctions on Hong Kong and mainland China. The authorities added that the assets of Apple Daily Limited, Apple Daily Printing Limited and Ad internet Limited had been frozen.
