France has just lost its oldest member. Marcel Meys, 112, died on Wednesday December 15 at the Vienne hospital in Isère. He had held this title of dean of the French since October 2021 only, after the death of Jules Théobald, an inhabitant of Martinique, who had also reached 112 years old.

Marcel Meys was born on July 12, 1909 in Isère, and he still lived in his house in Saint-Romain-en-Gal in the Rhône, accompanied by his only daughter. He had tested positive for Covid-19 but was still “in shape” a few days ago, according to the mayor of his town.

In a message posted on social networks, the chosen one greeted “his good humor, his kindness, his humility and his eternal optimism.”
