After a beta version in the hands of developers for a few weeks, iOS 15.2 appeared on compatible iPhones on Monday evening. As a result, several new features on privacy, a more flexible Macro mode, multu voice recognition and the arrival of Apple Music Voice.
Less than three months after its deployment, iOS 15 Already experiencing its second major update, the fifth including the security and performance patches deployed along the way (iOS 15.0.1, 15.0.2 and 15.1.1). Available for developers for several weeks, iOS 15.2 is finally deployed for the general public.
As Apple often likes to do, this update arrived this Monday evening, with its share of eagerly awaited new features. After SharePlay now available to share content synchronously with loved ones (music, video, etc.) and which will be deployed on macOS Monterey with the new update for Macs, iOS 15.2 notably brings data transfer to third parties, nudity detection in Messages or even improved controls for privacy.
New iOS 15.2 features
IPhone users, but also iPad users in the iPadOS 15.2 version which is being released in parallel, will be full of new features.
Apple Music Voice is available
Apple Music Voice, the new music streaming service package, is finally offered with its broken price (4.99 euros per month) and its use only via Siri, especially on speakers HomePod and HomePod mini.
You can access the entire catalog, playlists and radio stations by asking the voice assistant. Siri can even give you suggestions based on your listening history.
Apple Music now allows you to search your own playlists to find a title or artist.
The HomePod is also enriched by the multi-user voice recognition. To do this, you need to update your speaker from the Home app after updating your iPhone or iPad.
A button to activate the macro manually
Since iOS 15.1, it is possible to deactivate the Macro mode which automatically launched as soon as you approach an object. But it was all or nothing for use. Among the new features of the beta, Apple offers the possibility of activating the function using a button on the tulip-shaped screen that appears on the Camera app. A function reserved only for iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.
New design for notifications on the lock screen
The entire appearance of notifications is changed. It is now in the form of thumbnails that the most important notifications appear in the form of tiles. One way to show them off much better.
Enhanced confidentiality
Protect the privacy of its users has become a priesthood for Apple which never ceases to remind people of this and to strengthen its security. And efforts are probably still to be made according to a recent article in the Financial Times which explained that the App Tracking Transparency system to prevent user data from being recovered by third-party apps managed to be bypassed. A new grimace within Cupertino after the Pegasus affair.
A new privacy report appears in Settings. It will allow you to know exactly which functions (location, camera, microphone, contacts, etc.) your applications have consulted in the last seven days, as well as their network activity.
The “hide my email address” option is finally deployed in the Mail app. This allows you to send your emails from a random address so that your correspondents do not know your exact address. All messages will be redirected to your usual mailbox. This requires an iCloud + subscription.
Designate your digital heir
Twitter and Facebook already offer to designate your digital heir who will inherit the controls of your account in the event of real death. Apple does the same by leaving you the possibility to designate a legatee who can access your content after your death.
The history of parts replaced on your iPhone displayed
The list of repairs undergone by your device (change of screen, battery, photo sensor, etc.) now appears in the general information of the iPhone (Settings> General> About). It also indicates whether or not the replaced part is Apple approved. An addition that would follow Apple’s recent announcement of offer an official replacement kit for the more manual ones (and brave!).
And also…
You now have five hours to locate your lost iPhone which would be in reserve mode. That is to say completely flat and off, but on the little power it has left to operate the NFC systems (transport card, contactless payment or CarKey).
CarPlay will be able to benefit from the more enriched maps of the iPhone, iPad and Mac versions, with the appearance of cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and details of traffic lanes in particular.
You can now rename or delete a tag in applications Reminders and Notes. The app stock Exchange now displays currency on a display to track performance since the start of the year.
A Store tab appears on the app Apple tv to better find, buy or rent a movie or a series.
iPadOS 15.2 now allows iPads to access “Quick Note” functionality by swiping from the lower right or left corner.
On the other hand, the detection of nudity in the sending of photos within the Messages app which made so much debate does not finally appear in the update in France, but only in the United States. No more than the universal mode to use the same mouse and the same keyboard to switch intuitively from an iPad to a MacBook or an iMac. We will still have to wait to see this flagship function being deployed for iPadOS in particular, which generally follows iOS updates.
What devices are compatible?
Here is the list of iPhone and iPod compatible with iOS 15.2. As always, the update appears gradually for all users during the first days:
