Israeli experts did not recommend the administration of the fourth dose of the vaccine – SME.sk

At the same time, the Commission did not recommend shortening the time between the second and third doses of the vaccine.

JERUSALEM. The Israeli Ministry of Health’s vaccination commission recommended not giving a fourth dose on Monday night vaccines against the common population, including immunocompromised people.

The daily Haarec reported on its website.

The original time between doses remains

At the same time, the Commission did not recommend shortening the time between the second and third doses of the vaccine.

The booster dose is currently given five months after the second dose, with the Commission previously considering reducing the period by two months.

A statement from the Ministry of Health states that the commission has reached a consensus on prioritizing the vaccination of those who have not yet received the recommended three doses of the vaccine.

However, Health Director Nachman Ash noted that there was a “high probability” that a fourth dose of the vaccine would be recommended, “but we’ll see when.”

Dozens of omicron infections

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 58 percent of eligible Israelis – over five years old – are fully vaccinated, which means they have received three doses of the vaccine or are within six months of the second dose.

Another 9.3 percent of Israelis are vaccinated twice, but could not be revaccinated even after six months. Another 32.4 percent of Israelis are unvaccinated.

Ron Balicer, head of the panel of experts who advises the Ministry of Health, said that almost 42 percent of Israelis are not sufficiently protected from the latest coronavirus variant omicron. So far, 67 infections of this variant have been diagnosed in Israel.
