We noticed the functionality of the OverPass application shortly after 11 o’clock in the morning.

At a standstill

It was in our newsroom that we encountered the fact that after installing the OverPass application (it is not the same as GreenPass, editor’s note), we encountered an impenetrable error with the error message “Failed to update settings”. The application required us to connect to the Internet, which at the time was clearly clear, so it is not clear what the next obstacle to the application in the case of loading. Subsequently, the program offers to repeat the action, but we are spinning in a vicious circle, and after canceling the entire window, the OverPass application will remain in the endless loop of initialization and nothing will happen.

In the case of the given problem, it was not even possible to reproduce this obstacle, as the application is protected against the production of image material (probably in the context of GDPR rules, as in other, for example, banking applications).

Just when we encountered this problem, it was ironic that the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization (MIRRI), led by Veronika Remišová, began to praise the GreenPass application and the just-malfunctioning OverPass. “There have been two reliable technical solutions on the Slovak market for several months for the smooth operation of current anti-pandemic measures. The mobile applications GreenPass and OverPass from the workshop of the state-owned company Slovakia IT provide a convenient solution for both citizens and traders whether clients are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have overcome the disease, “ it is stated in the MIRRI opinion.

The just-mentioned and non-functioning OverPass is extremely important and significant in these days of the latest operational measures. “The second application is OverPass, which is used to verify the validity of covid passports via a QR code. Thanks to this application, merchants will check immediately upon entry whether customers meet the specified conditions, ie whether they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or overcome the disease.” justifies the operation of the second MIRRI application, which, however, did not work at the time of writing.

But there was an obvious problem. Traders could not follow the current measures during the application, because the application obviously did not work for them either. However, it is shocking how some operators “dealt with this”. “Awkward. Just when we’re going to use this to control people entering the church. So I’m letting everyone go.” writes in shocking comments on an app review in the Google Play store.

It is not yet certain whether the application will report the same error message on iOS devices.

The company Slovensko IT as is responsible for both applications. We also contacted us in the event of this drastic problem. “We are registering the issue and working to resolve it.” Pavol Miroššay, Chairman of the Board of Directors, provided us with an opinion. However, he declined to comment on the specific cause.

At the time of the current measures, the malfunction of the OverPass is quite a problem. According to MIRRI, many operators do not even know how to verify the validity of covid passports. According to them, the OverPass application, which is a kind of “second party” next to GreenPass and serves for operators to check customers’ QR codes, is used for this. “At the end of November, OverPass was used by more than 70,000 users, an increase of more than 140% compared to October. Since the beginning of December, the number of active OverPass users has grown by thousands more.” the ministry praises.
