“These do not allow us to provide quality transport services for passengers and to operate a new bus station so as to ensure economic sustainability and stability without the risk of creating a long-term loss for Slovak Lines,” Slovak Lines spokesman Stefan Bako said.

The fact that the new regional bus carrier in the Bratislava region did not finally agree with the former carrier on cooperation in the form of subcontracting was confirmed a few days ago by the Bratislava self-governing region (BSK).

“The quickest solution for the full functioning of suburban bus transport would be the cooperation of both carriers. Unfortunately, they both told us that no agreement was finally reached in the technical negotiations,” specified the director of the communication department of BSK Michal Feik. The share of dispatched connections in regional bus transport in the region is currently about 75 percent, in the Malaciek area it is already approaching 90 percent. “Lack of connections still runs in the districts of Pezinok and Senec,” Feik remarked.

BSK Chairman Juraj Droba announced on December 3 that the new and former carriers had agreed to cooperate in the form of subcontracting. Arriva was to remain the carrier providing services for the self-governing region. Slovak Lines was to subcontract its capacity on selected routes. Arriva, which has been operating suburban transport in the Bratislava region since mid-November, has a problem with connection failures due to a lack of drivers, especially in the vicinity of Pezinok and Senec. However, on December 3, Arriva and Slovak Lines were reluctant to confirm the information about the agreement, both of whom pointed out that no agreement had yet been signed between them.

Slovak Lines will be a subcontractor for Arriva, Droba said

Droba, who expected a significant improvement in suburban transport by Christmas, continues to insist on sanctions for connection failures, which the region already counts in the hundreds of thousands of euros. According to the head of BSK, the fine counter will stop when Arriva starts providing 95 percent or more of its services. The new carrier declares from the beginning that it is trying to solve the problem. He also wants to attract new drivers for a high recruitment allowance. He also searches for drivers abroad. He also signed an agreement with the drivers of minibuses, who help to cover some connections in the region. Arriva has not yet answered the current TASR questions.
