Harnaaz Sandhu from India is the new Miss Universe 2021

(CNN Spanish) – Harnaaz Sandhu from India is the winner of the Miss Universe 2021 pageant, which held this year’s 70th edition of the pageant.

The 21-year-old Miss India succeeds the Mexican Andrea Meza in the crown.

Harnaaz says she is inspired by her mother, who broke generations of patriarchy to be a gynecologist, according to the organizers of the contest.

Miss Paraguay, Nadia Ferreira, came in second place.

The event was held in the city of Eilat, in Israel.
