On behalf of the 18th day of Ligue 1, Olympique de Marseille won Strasbourg (0-2) this Sunday. A success which allows the Marseillais to take second place in the standings.
The Marseillais congratulate the first scorer Dieng.
Opposed to a team from Strasbourg who had just scored 8 goals in 2 games, and who remained in 6 games without defeat, Olympique de Marseille did the job.
Without impressing in the game, Jorge Sampaoli’s men dominated Strasbourg (0-2) thanks to a better second period.
Awkward Dieng …
Because in the first act, while we could hope for a good offensive show, the two teams had difficulty being dangerous. Each had its sequences, with a rather sterile possession.
OM nevertheless obtained two chances, first on the powerful half-flight of Gueye ct, then on the duel missed by Dieng at a close angle! Without the clumsiness of the Senegalese, the Marseillais would perhaps have been more threatening in this first act. Unlike Strasbourg’s totally neutralized, if we except the goal denied Diallo for an offside from Guilbert at the start of the action.
… Then stunning!
Nothing very exciting in these first 46 minutes which did not please the public of the Meinau. Fortunately, a livened up a bit when we got back from the locker room. Alsatian strikers Ajorque then Diallo did not put Pau Lopez in sufficient danger. While Dieng (0-1, 62nd), so far imprecise, succeeded in a superb acrobatic gesture!
What bring a little madness this meeting which was sorely lacking. Strasbourg finally began to push, but missed the ball of the equalizer through Ajorque. It was the opportunity not to be missed because a few minutes later, Caleta-Car (0-2, 82nd) doubled the bet from a corner! And concluded an unspectacular but deserved success for OM.
The score of the match: 4/10
Thanks Dieng for the gem. Because for the rest, this poster which promised to be fascinating did not keep its promises. The first period was very poor in opportunities. it got a little lively after the break, but nothing very exciting.
The goals:
– On a counter phase, Payet throws Henrique deep on the right side. The Brazilian crosses at the second post o Payet asks (or orders) Dieng to give him the ball. But the attacker tries and succeeds a superb acrobatic gesture! (0-1, 62nd)
– On a corner returning from Payet to the near post, Caleta-Car arrives launched and places his head. Not responsive enough, goalkeeper Sels seems on the path but is still beaten (0-2, 82nd).
Player NOTES
Maxifoot has awarded a score (out of 10) comments on each player.
Man of the match: Bamba Dieng (7.5 / 10)
To celebrate the signing of his new contract, the OM striker offered himself an exceptional goal! It took a lot of courage to attempt this acrobatic gesture, under pressure from Payet who demanded the ball, but especially after having missed huge opportunities. Always this problem of efficiency. It does not prevent that the Senegalese was the most dangerous Marseillais ahead by his percussion and his calls in depth. Replace the 65th by Cengiz nder (not rated).
STRASBOURG :
Matz Sels (3): unlike his Marseille counterpart, the Strasbourg goalkeeper did not help his teammates. On the contrary, he put them in difficulty with a bad return from a corner. Before conceding the second goal signed Caleta-Car, while he was on the path of the ball.
Frederic Guilbert (6): by his calls in depth, the right piston was the most dangerous Strasbourg offensive. It was more complicated behind, especially when Dieng came to create differences on his side. Note also that the former Caen loses his support before the goal of the Marseille striker.
Lucas Perrin (6): special match for the central defender loaned by OM. This situation did not disturb him, especially in his initiatives on the ball to kick off the relaunch. Replace the 79th with Mose Sahi (not rated).
Gerzino Nyamsi (4): far from being the fastest in the field, the former Rennes player was late several times. His cover was not ideal on Dieng’s assaults.
Alexander Djiku (6): always so serene with and without the ball, the central defender quickly noticed that the solutions of the pass were rare this Sunday. Hence its less vertical play than usual.
Anthony Caci (5.5): little used by Henrique, the left piston did not benefit enough to bring the danger ahead. His rare initiatives were nevertheless interesting. Had it not been for the opportunity Ajorque missed, he could have ended up with a decisive pass. Replace the 79th with Dimitri Linard (not rated).
Adrien Thomasson (4): without space in the midfield, the attacking midfielder had a lot of trouble expressing himself. Marseille midfielders left him very little space, even if his mobility allowed him to exist more after half-time.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (3): force to run into the void during the long stretches of OM in the first period, the Strasbourg midfielder may have lost too much energy. In any case, he did not contribute much this Sunday.
Ibrahima Sissoko (5): in power, the middle made big differences in the first period. He was one of the few able to shake up the OM defense. Problem is, he disappeared after the break. Replace the 71st by Kevin Gameiro (not rated).
Habib Diallo (4): no luck, his goal was refused for an offside from Guilbert at the start of the action. He was then ineffective on his occasions, especially after his little festival in the area. He is also the victim of a rescue by Luan Peres at the end of the meeting.
Ludovic Ajorque (3): notably known for his efficiency, the Racing scorer was really not having a good day. On two occasions, and in particular after Saliba’s error, he lacked determination in his strikes, allowing Pau Lopez to neutralize him with ease. He also did not make the difference in the middle with his stalls.
MARSEILLE :
Pau Lpez (7): very strained on the feet, the OM goalkeeper still took big risks. His high positioning did not leave him the right to error. In the end, the Spaniard did well. But above all, he was reassuring when Strasbourg put pressure on his cage at the end of the match.
Pol Lirola (3): another disappointing match for the Spaniard. Shy, the community has not taken any significant initiative. We keep repeating it, this position obviously does not correspond to him. Replace the 65th by Matto Guendouzi (not rated), who did not spare any effort to maintain the advantage. A little short, he missed an opportunity to score the 3rd goal at the very end of the game.
William Saliba (6): serene and very comfortable with the ball at the foot, the defender ready by Arsenal was nevertheless a great fright. His loss of the ball offered Ajorque an opportunity, which did not take advantage of it.
Duje Caleta-Car (6.5): due to Ajorque’s stalls, the tough duel did not take place. The Croatian therefore spent a fairly quiet match, and ended with a nice header goal.
Luan Peres (5): we know, the Brazilian is not always comfortable on the opposing spillovers. This was confirmed in Strasbourg, whose Guilbert right piston caused him a lot of problems on his climbs. He resisted as best he could, and ended up carrying out a little academic rescue on Diallo’s head.
Boubacar Kamara (6.5): it is no coincidence that the Alsatians had such difficulty finding verticality in the axis. Rough in the duels, especially against Thomasson, the youngster has protected his defense well. Including by committing the fault if necessary.
Valentin Rongier (7): difficult to determine his exact function as the environment was omnipresent! Faced with the intensity imposed by the Strasbourg residents, he responded perfectly from the start. All without forgetting to make yourself available during the possession phases. Replace the 86th with Leonardo Balerdi (not rated).
Pape Gueye (5.5): a cut below compared to his midfield teammates, the midfielder had some clarity in the game. We remember in particular his half-flight just beside, or his deep opening for Dieng, well felt by the goalkeeper Sels.
Dimitri Payet (7.5): the image of his team, the playmaker took a little time to really get into his match. Initially discreet, the Runionnais has again become the conductor we know in the second period. He is still the author of pretty technical gestures. And finds himself involved on the two goals scored.
Luis Henrique (4): it’s true, the Brazilian winger managed a good decisive cross before the acrobatic gesture of Dieng. But for the rest, its contribution is largely insufficient. His start to the match was promising, but it quickly faded. Replace the 79th with Gerson (not rated).
Bamba Dieng (7.5): see comment above.
