Referendum 2021: record drop in the estimated turnout to 1 – Overseas the 1st

Since 7 am on December 12, 2021, Caledonians went to the polling stations for the 3rd referendum consultation. Here are the participation figures, recorded at 12 o’clock.

As soon as the polling stations opened this morning, we could see a drop in attendance compared to previous referendums. At 12 noon, the trend was confirmed with the estimate of the participation rate unveiled by the High Commission for the Republic of New Caledonia.

At 12 p.m. the estimated turnout was 27.75%. In 2020 at midday, it was 49.40% and 41.81% in 2018. A significant drop. As a reminder, the total number of registered voters for this referendum is 184,332 people.

Figures radically different from those of the previous year. In 2020, a historic record for the midday turnout was recorded.

The next update on participation will be at 5 p.m.
