The pair of HK Nitra players Šimon Nemec and Adam Sýkora did not arrive in Piešťany for Saturday’s meeting of the Slovak national under-20 hockey team. The club did not release them on the set date of the start of the camp (December 11 at 11.00 am) with the addition that they will let both of them into the national team only after they play Sunday’s TIPOS Extraliga match between HK Nitra and Slovan Bratislava. The portal hockeyslovakia.sk informed about it.

The national team management is publicly asking the management of HK Nitra to release the players for the needs of the junior national team as soon as possible and not to make them hostage to this situation.

The management of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH) stated that HK Nitra was violating the rules and valid Statutes of SZĽH in connection with the release of players for the duties of the state representation. Specifically, point 4.1.2 of the Statutes, which states: “The club for which the national hockey player regularly replaces him will release him to the extent that the public prosecutor’s office needs his services.”

On Saturday, the management of HK Nitra informed the implementation team of the twenties that they plan to use both hockey players in Sunday’s extra-league match against HC Slovan Bratislava. In this way, SZĽH warns the club management that if the players enter the match, according to point 3.5.5 of the SZĽH Competition Rules, their start will be classified as unauthorized.

“Hockey players-representatives are not entitled to start for any ice hockey club or state representation of another state during the period of validity of the individual nomination for the state representation of the Slovak Republic. it is written in the Competition Rules.

In the event of an unauthorized start, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against the club, in which, due to the disciplinary rules, there is a risk of sanctions, including contamination of the achieved result.

Tomáš Pšenka, manager of SR 20, responded to the case: “We are very sorry for the management of HK Nitra. It put a pair of its players and skilled junior representatives in a difficult position for which they cannot, and endangered their participation in the top event, which can significantly help them in the process of building a successful career.

Not only because the players may be injured in the expected flogged fight with Slovan Bratislava, but also because of the strong demands of the IIHF. Other Slovak clubs were willing to release their players for the needs of the state national team and play Sunday’s matches without them. HK Nitra is trying to set a precedent that cannot be accepted due to the valid rules. “

In addition to the Nemec – Sýkora pair, Juraj Slafkovský was also missing at Saturday’s meeting, but due to an agreement with his club TPS Turku. As the Finnish club is not covered by the SZĽH Statutes and Rules, Slafkovsky could not be released to Turku until December 12, which he took advantage of.
