Bad weather in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: the recession started, preventive evacuations in Guiche and Urt – South West

Friday evening, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Landes were placed on red alert. The flood peak expected at 11:07 p.m. was ultimately less problematic than expected, indicates the prefecture of 64, this Saturday, December 11. In total, since Thursday, 3 p.m., 350 interventions have mobilized the firefighters. Currently, a dozen are still in progress, especially on the Adour side.

Preventive evacuations

The recession begins slowly and, as a precaution, to avoid new relief interventions, the prefecture asks the inhabitants of Pyrénées-Atlantiques to limit their movements as much as possible.

Decreasing precipitation

After the record amounts of water that fell in the department in 24 hours, and in particular in Laruns, in the Ossau valley, the precipitation will weaken during the day. Sunday will also be much less humid.

The rain-snow limit, at 1,200 meters this Saturday morning, will however rise from here this Saturday evening to 1,800, or even 2,000 meters. The avalanche risk went from alert level 5 to a more reasonable 3.

In Laruns, a pocket of potentially slippery ground threatening a power line is under surveillance.

50 roads cut

The six rivers of the department, the Nive, the Nivelle, the Saison, the Bec du Gave and the gaves of Pau and Oloron, the day before in flood, went down to an orange or even yellow alert level. 39 roads of the department are still cut this Saturday morning. This is the case of the RD 122 for example, at La Pierre Saint-Martin, buried by a mudslide.

In Larrau, the situation is not getting better. This Saturday morning, the RD19 towards the Iraty chalets is blocked, following a collapse of the land. Yesterday already, the road which led to the village of Larrau had been buried by a landslide, forcing one to go through Iraty to reach it.

Disruptions are still to be expected from the SNCF side, on the Pau / Artix and Bedous / Oloron links. The Bayonne / Puyoô route will remain closed on Monday. As for Bayonne / Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, substitute buses have been set up.

In Bayonne

In Bayonne, access to the quays is still prohibited. The Basque Museum and the history of Bayonne has indicated that it will remain closed this Saturday. However, it will be open on Sunday. All the Christmas activities planned for this Saturday have been postponed until tomorrow, Sunday 12 December.

Bus side

Lines 5 and 30 are diverted in the Bayonne Saint-André sector. The stops at Place Saint-André, Arsenal, Pont du Génie, Lauga and Cassin are not served and are transferred to the Réduit, Boufflers or J. Loeb stops. The free shuttle N1 (Glain / Mairie de Bayonne) does not run.

Line 52 is diverted in the Bassussarry sector. The Distitsar and Errecartia stops are not served and are postponed to the Xoko Tiki stop.
