In Slovakia we have the first cases of a new variant of omikron – TVNOVINY.sk

In Slovakia, we have the first cases of a new variant coronavirus omicron, which first appeared in late November in South Africa. Prime Minister Eduard Heger informed about the presence of the new variant.

Specifically, there should be three positive samples. They caught the variant in people who returned from high-risk countries. They arrived by individual transport and are currently in quarantine.

All infected are fully vaccinated and have a mild course.

They adhered to quarantine

According to the Public Health Office of the Slovak Republic, the people responded to an urgent call for those who visited the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswaniti, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Israel, Hong Kong and the Seychelles to report.

At the same time, since the first of December 2021, the ÚVZ SR decree has been in force, which orders isolation from persons coming from these potentially risky countries in Slovakia, regardless of the vaccination status.

Infected Slovaks complied with the regulation and remained in quarantine upon arrival home. The disease did not spread further, samples from members of the common household will be sequenced.

The delta variant still dominates in Slovakia.
