The reboot of the program – created by Darren Star in 1998 and broadcast here in France on the Salto streaming platform – returns to New York, where the heroines of yesteryear, now in their fifties, must face new issues. How did their friendship survive? What are their couples like?

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, but also Chris Noth and Willie Garson. Well-known names from the show are there. New personalities too, like Sarita Choudhury and Sara Ramirez. However, an iconic figure in the group of four girlfriends is missing. It is the interpreter of Samantha Jones, Kim Cattrall, the “eaten of men”.

As showrunner Michael Patrick King recently explained, she was never in the game. The latter, for some reason unknown, had refused to participate in the third film of the franchise (two having already been released on the screens in 2008 and 2010).

Kim Cattrall, demanding?

The director wants to be clear: Samantha no longer exists in the life of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte. “The show was designed around these three, he continues in the columns of the Hollywood Reporter. Since the early 2010s, many rumors have circulated about Kim Cattrall. Some of them, for example, attributed to the actress and her “demands” the failure of the third opus, which would not have seen the light of day because of her. Something to which the main interested party had responded on Twitter, indicating that her only requirement had been to simply refuse to participate.

But now, for many, the absence of Kim Cattrall in the casting would be linked to another affair: Sarah Jessica Parker and she would hate each other. And for good reason, the star of the original program would have knowingly sidelined the 65-year-old actress since the creation of Sex and the City, as an old article by Page Six, according to who the star would have rented, the time of a shoot in Atlantic City, a house for her, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. Is it true? On Instagram, the interpreter of Carrie Bradshaw answered this question, ensuring that she absolutely does not hate her colleague. “I never said that. I never will, she promises. The interpreter of Samantha Jones seems less of this opinion. In an interview with American television in 2017, she confided that she had moved on, but that “Sarah Jessica Parker could have been nicer. Questions remain. What scriptwriting sources will be used to justify its disappearance? According to Charlotte’s interpreter, it will not be avoided. “We would never have disrespected Samantha,” agreed Kristin Davis in an interview with the show.
