The founder of the British band Bronski Beat, Steve Bronski, died at the age of 61. The death of the keyboardist was confirmed by the band’s singer Jimmy Somerville.

The band became famous for the hit Smalltown Boy, in which Bronski also participated. The portal informed about it BBC.

“I was saddened by the news that Steve Bronski had died,” singer Jimmy Somerville wrote on Facebook on Thursday. He has been with the Bronsk native in Glasgow since 1983.

Hit Smalltown Boy tells the story of a gay boy who escapes from his hometown to a big city. The band was very popular in the LGBT community in the 80’s. All three members openly admitted to homosexual orientation.

“He was a talented and very melodic man. It was fun and exciting to work with him on songs, including the one that changed our lives and touched several other lives, ”Somerville wrote.

The band also made a name for themselves with singles like Why? and also a cover version of I Feel Love by Donny Summer.
