From today, masks are mandatory in England in most of the indoor gathering places. According to the so-called ‘Plan B’, made necessary due to the increase in infections and the emergence of the Omicron variant, the masks must be worn in cinemas, theaters, churches, museums and sports facilities, such as stadiums and arenas. The new measures have been called a “necessary evil” by the government’s scientific experts, who assure that the new approach is by no means “exaggerated” compared to the pandemic situation in the country. Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph, citing government sources, anticipates that it will be “very likely” that visits to senior citizens in nursing homes will soon be limited to just three pre-designated visitors. According to data released yesterday by health authorities, 817 cases of the new Omicron variant have so far been identified across the UK. In the meantime, Scottish health authorities have advised citizens to cancel the Christmas parties, despite British Prime Minister Boris Johnson having instead sent the British an opposite message.
