PRAGUE – Slovak football player Dávid Hancko helped with his goal to the triumph of Sparta Prague over Bröndby Copenhagen 2: 0 in the final 6th round of the group stage of the European League UEFA 2021/2022.

The Czech vice-champion in the basic line-up, together with Dominik Holec and Lukáš Haraslín, confirmed the third place in the A-group with a victory, and in the spring he will present himself in the playoffs for the eighth finals of the European Conference League (EKL). Spartak Moscow and Eintracht Frankfurt secured the championship in their groups and a direct advancement to the EL round of March in Thursday. They joined the Bayer Leverkusen, Olympique Lyon, AS Monaco and West Ham United quartets, which have long since gained confidence in the top 16.

The Russian club secured the promotion with a 1-0 victory over the home Legion Warsaw, thanks to which it won the C-group ahead of SSC Naples. Eintracht confirmed the D-Group championship thanks to a 1: 1 draw at Fenerbahce Istanbul. Three teams in second place fought their way to the EL round of 16 in February – in addition to Naples, Real Sociedad and Olympiakos Piraeus. They joined the Glasgow Rangers and Betis Sevilla, as well as three teams from third places in the Champions League groups consisting of Borussia Dortmund, Sheriff Tiraspol and Zenit St. Petersburg. Sparta needed at least a draw against Bröndby to participate in the playoffs for the eight-final EKL, but from the beginning she did everything to win. The defensive walls of the Danish opponent managed to break through in the 43rd minute, when Hancko stood for a direct kick and technically sent the ball to the back post with a left pass – 1: 0.

Shortly after the break, Adam Hložek, who had the best orientation in the penalty area after Jakub Pešek’s shot, increased the lead of the “reds”. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Tomáš Wiesner tried lifting the ball over keeper Anis Slimane. Sparta has already guarded the two-goal lead until the end of the match. Holec and Hancko played the whole match, Haraslín replaced in the 86th minute, the fourth Slovak legionary in the service of the Prague team Lukáš Štetina watched the match from the bench. In the second match of the group, the already certain winner of the “A” Lyon drew 1: 1 with the Glasgow Rangers.

Hit for Naples

The highlight of Thursday’s program was Naples’ duel with Leicester in the C-group, from which all four teams could advance. SSC, in whose jersey the Slovak midfielder Stanislav Lobotka was absent due to a muscle injury, took the lead in the 4th minute, when he pushed through with an accurate ground cross shot by Adam Ounas. The North Macedonian representative Eljif Elmas increased the lead to 2: 0 after a quick attack and a pass for Andrea Petagn. The “foxes” who would have said goodbye to the EL in the event of a loss did not fold their weapons and leveled up in six minutes thanks to Jonny Evans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. However, the Italian representative pulled the lead to his side, in the 53rd minute he scored the winning goal and his second in the match Elmas.

However, this result was most suitable for Spartak Moscow, who succeeded on the pitch of the Legion Warsaw 1: 0 and jumped to the first place. The only goal was scored by Zelimchan Bakayev in the 17th minute. The Polish team were able to turn the opponent for the first place in the group, but in the eighth minute of the set time, Tomáš Pekhart refused to equalizer when he did not convert the penalty kick. The first Spartak and the second Naples got the same 10 points, with equal points they played better mutual matches with the SSC in favor of the Russian team (3: 2, 2: 1). The third Leicester must be satisfied with the EKL barracks.

The draw for the EL round-finals is on the program on December 13, eight clubs from the second places of the EL groups will be deployed against the eight thirds of the LM and will have the advantage of the home environment in retaliation. The rule is that teams from the same country cannot meet. Play off is on the 17th, respectively. February 24.
