Khalifa Sall, Senegalese political opponent and former mayor of Dakar: “I will be a candidate in 2024”

According to Khalifa Sall, a victory for the opposition in the local elections – scheduled for January – is essential to “definitively dissuade” President Macky Sall from standing for re-election in 2024. He expresses his fear that the ballot will be rigged by the power in place, while refusing to boycott it. He accuses the power of creating a climate of tension conducive to further violence.

Khalifa Sall claims that the president does not have the right to stand for a third term and that the Senegalese would never accept it. He denies any negotiation with Macky Sall to obtain an amnesty following his sentence to 5 years in prison, while adding to be in contact with the other opponent Karim Wade.
