Here is the first smartphone with the all new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – Frandroid

Motorola has just officially announced the first smartphone equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It is the Motorola Edge X30. Here’s everything we know about it.

And the first smartphone announced equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is… the Motorola Edge X30. The race had been raging for a few weeks between Xiaomi and his Xiaomi 12 and the American firm, but it is ultimately Motorola that wins the jackpot, reports us Android Central.

It is not a big surprise. Just after the announcement of Qualcomm’s new SoC, Motorola was the first brand to announce that its next flagship would be equipped with it. Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, Realme, many brands rushed to join the list.

We have since been waiting to know who would win the somewhat ephemeral glory of the “first smartphone equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.” Last year, it is the range Xiaomi mi 11 who had won the title.

From top of the range to all floors

With the new smartphone chip, the Motorola Edge X30 is undoubtedly a high-end smartphone. Starting with its screen, a 6.7-inch Oled panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz (capable of going down to 48 Hz to save battery), a sampling rate of 576 MHz and ‘an FHD + definition.

Motorola makes up for it with a fiery 60-megapixel selfie sensor located in the center of the screen in a punch. A special edition of the smartphone is even offered with the same camera, but this time hidden under the screen.

The rest of the photo setup is more classic: there’s a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical stabilization, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, all tucked away in a rather elegant oval photo block.

8K video, enabled by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 ISP, should be possible.

For the rest of the configuration, you can count on a 5000 mAh battery. Motorola could have beefed up its game on fast charging with a power of 68W to recharge its device. By way of interface, Android 12 should be available right out of the box.

One would be tempted to see there the return of the fallen giant Motorola on the front of the stage, given that in France the firm left the top 5 for a long time. It would be to forget that in the United States, Motorola is still part of the top. 3 of the most popular manufacturers in terms of sales.

Motorola Edge X30 price and availability

French prices for the Motorola Edge X30 are not yet known. However, we can tell you that it starts at 3199 yuan (about 444 euros in simple conversion) for its 8 GB + 128 GB version. In 12 + 256 GB, you will have to pay in China 3999 yuan, or about 555 euros. The special edition with a selfie sensor below the display is expected to trade at 3,999 yuan as well.

According to the first images unveiled by GSM Arena, two colors should be available at the exit: a black and light blue.

The Motorola Edge X30 could be released in France and Europe with a slightly different name. Sales in China begin on December 15.

Motorola Edge S30

By the way, Motorola announced another smartphone: the Edge S30. This one is presented by GSMArena as a mid-range, despite its Snapdragon 888+ SoC which would have placed it on the high-end side just a few weeks ago.

For the rest, the technical sheet lets pass some concessions, such as the presence of an IPS LCD screen in Full HD +. LCD in 2021, even at 144 Hz as is the case here, it can be a bit scary.

Camera level level, we can count on a 108 megapixel sensor, an ultra wide-angle of 13 megapixels and a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. The selfie camera displays 16 megapixels for its part.

Another small concession: the battery is still 5000 mAh but the load is only 33W. Last difference: Out of the box, you’ll be running Android 11.

To get the Moto Edge S30, it will cost 1999 yuan (277 euros) in 6 + 128 GB and 2599 yuan (361 euros) for the 8 + 256 GB version. Sales start on December 21.
