Rain-flood, floods and avalanches: ten departments on orange alert – LCI

Be careful, the weather promises to be bad, even very bad. Météo-France placed three departments in the Alps on avalanche alert on Thursday in its 4 p.m. bulletin: Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère.

These are in addition to the five departments of the Pyrenees already placed in orange avalanche vigilance since noon: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Andorra and Pyrénées-Orientales. Note that Andorra is also concerned.

In addition, earlier in the morning, two departments were placed on rain-flood vigilance: Landes and the Gers. And two others in vigilance for floods: Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées (also therefore in avalanche alert).

“The avalanche activity expected from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning is observed on average once every two years, but is atypical also early in the winter season”, warns Météo-France.
