The Toyota Corolla Cross will also come to Europe. Toyota’s SUV range has not been larger.

Corolla Cross stands on the TNGA chassis platform from Toyota, specifically on the latest development variant of the GA-C platform. Inside and outside, you can notice the elements that connect the model not only with the next of kin – the Corolla hatchback, but also with the SUV models. Corolla Cross will stand between the smaller Yaris Cross and C-HR and the larger RAV4. It offers higher-performance hybrid engine and front and both axle drive via the i-AWD system.

The Corolla Cross measures 4,460 mm in length, is 1,825 mm wide and 1,620 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,640 mm. Thanks to the higher body, there is more space above the head in the cab, but also for the legs in both rows of seats. The view directly in front of the vehicle is better thanks to the higher seat, and where the reinforced body itself is blocked, assistance systems and cameras will help. Toyota boasts larger rear door openings, which increase practicality and, in particular, make it easier to access the rear seats. Although the press release does not state this, the suitcase should have more than 440 liters of volume, but this figure corresponds to the version of the Corolly Cross without a hybrid system and Asian standards. On the contrary, in the USA they state 714 l of volume, but this is a figure that also includes the space above the level of the rear seats. The European parameter will therefore be below 500 liters. There is also a panoramic roof.

The car has a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.5-inch central infotainment touch screen. Wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto and Toyota Smart Connect services are available. A novelty is cloud-based navigation with remote updates, and customers will also find the MyT app, which allows remote monitoring of the car’s condition, as well as programming of air conditioning before driving and the like.

Last but not least, the new Corolla Cross is equipped with the T-Mate system, which combines the latest Toyota Safety Sense safety package with other active steering and parking assistance systems. For the first time, the Pre-Collision Safety System (PCS) offers Acceleration Suppression at low speeds, traffic junction assistance at junctions, as well as improved identification of oncoming vehicles and junction assistance at junctions.

Other new Toyota Safety Sense features include the Emergency Stop Assistance (EDSS) and Remote Online Update (OTA) systems to reliably update and add additional features throughout the life of the vehicle. Improvements also affected Full Speed ​​Range Adaptive Cruise Control (FSR ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LTA), as well as the Traffic Sign Recognition System (RSA).
T-Mate assists the driver through blind spot monitoring (BSM) with Safe Leaving Assistants (SEA), Automatic High Beam Control (AHB) and parking assistants, including Toyota Teammate Advanced Semi-Autonomous Parking, PVM, and Monitoring traffic control with automatic braking (RCTAB) and intelligent ultrasonic locator (ICS).

The new Corolly Cross’s level of passive safety is enhanced by the ultra-rigid GA-C chassis platform, while the new center side airbag for the front seats helps prevent the front passengers from colliding in the event of a side-on collision.

New 5th generation hybrid system

The Corolla Cross is Toyota’s first global model to take advantage of the new fifth-generation hybrid system.

The fully hybrid fifth-generation autonomous charging system, used for front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD-i), builds on the previous version, offering higher torque, more electricity, even more economical operation and greater driving pleasure.

The gearbox was redesigned together with the use of a new oil lubrication and distribution system, where low viscosity oil was used. This in turn is reflected in operational efficiency and increased performance due to lower electrical and mechanical losses.

The new battery module uses the latest results in the development of lithium-ion batteries, making it more powerful and 40% lighter than before.

By increasing the power of the electric motor and the internal combustion engine, the total system power increased by more than 8%.

The 2.0-liter FWD hybrid drive produces 146 kW (197 hp) and accelerates the vehicle from 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds.

The AWD-i variant uses another electric motor on the rear axle with an output of 30.6 kW. Toyota does not state its torque, but in the end it is not so important (since it all depends on the rear differential and the speed of the electric motor).

The rear electric motor connects automatically for better driving characteristics, safety behind the wheel and a feeling of safety on surfaces with reduced grip.
