Covid Israel today, with third dose 90% less mortality for over 50s

People over the age of 50 who have received a third dose of Pfizer vaccine have a 90% lower chance of dying from covid than those who have only received two. This was stated by an Israeli research, conducted before the onset of the Omicron variant, and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Israel was the first country to introduce the third dose in July. The study carried out by mutual aid Clalit, explains Times of Israel, concerns 843,208 people, of which 758,118 (90%) received the third dose during the period studied. In this group there were 65 deaths from covid, equal to 0.16 cases per 100 thousand per day. In the group of those who had received only two doses at least five months earlier there were 137 deaths, or 2.98 per 100 thousand per day. The four mutual societies operating in Israel have a digitized system with all patient data, a feature that facilitates studies on the effectiveness of the vaccine. Statistics from the third dose study took into account socio-demographic factors and the presence of other medical conditions. The study demonstrates “unequivocally that the dose booster is significantly associated with the reduction in mortality risk from coronavirus, including the Delta variant,” said Doron Netzer, co-author of the research.
