Météo France forecasts significant precipitation Thursday evening in these two departments, and in particular in the Basque Country and the Pyrenees.

Heavy rainfall is still expected in several French departments, Thursday, December 9, and particularly in the South-West, where Meteo France has placed two departments on orange “rain-flood” vigilance. These are the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Hautes-Pyrénées.

These continuous rains will intensify from the middle of the afternoon and will become general in the evening in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées, “with an hourly intensity of the order of 5 to 10 mm in places in particular in the Basque Country and the relief of the Pyrenees”. They will continue during the night from Thursday to Friday as well as in the morning of Friday.

“This precipitation is also accompanied by a marked warming with a rain / snow limit which goes up to 2300 m during the night from Thursday to Friday”, add forecasters. In addition, a strong swell is expected on the Basque coast during this episode, “thus limiting the flow of rivers towards the ocean and thus constituting an aggravating factor”.
