Ema and James. As in 2020, these are the most common names of children in 2021.

While the name Jakub holds the first place for the third year in a row, Adam, Samuel, Michal, Oliver, Tomáš, Filip, Matej, Lukáš and Martin catch up with him.

“The top ten most common names are Richard, Alex, Matúš, Tobias, Dávid, Peter, Šimon, Patrik, Dominik and Ján,” said Júlia Andrejčíková from the press department of the Ministry of the Interior.

Ema defended the first place in the girls’ names, but Nina is in her close line. They are followed by Sofia, Eliška, Viktória, Sára, Natália, Nela, Mia and Hana.

These names of newborn children have been popular in Slovakia for several years. The most common male names in Slovakia are Peter, Ján and Jozef. Women are most often bearers of the names Mária, Anna and Zuzana.

“It is assumed that Jakubovia and Emy will also be included in the list of the most widespread names in Slovakia in the near future,” Andrejčíková concluded.
