Storm Barra in the South West: accidents on the motorway, fall in the Adour, disrupted SNCF traffic – South West

Storm Barra is here. In the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, placed on yellow flood alert and risk of a flood wave since Wednesday, December 8 in the morning, strong winds and hailstorms in the morning have already caused damage.

Road accidents

On the A63, near Bayonne, two accidents took place this Wednesday morning, without causing any injuries. In the direction of Spain, after the Ondres exit, a large pile-up involving four cars, two vans and a truck, caused by a hailstorm, cut off traffic. Shortly before 10 a.m., a ten-kilometer traffic jam complicated traffic on this axis.

At the same time, in North Bayonne, in the direction of Bordeaux, a car skidded and ended up on the roof. The occupant of the vehicle was not injured but, again, traffic was stopped and entry and exit on the motorway was not recommended. A 5-kilometer traffic jam has formed.

In the Landes, help went to the Barthes of Saint-Barthélemy. Ten firefighters and a gendarmerie patrol intervened after a vehicle fell in the Adour. The driver, in her fifties, was evacuated to a hospital center.

SNCF traffic

Still in the Landes, a tree fell on the tracks of the Dax-Puyoô line, causing a collision with a train around 9.45 am The 20 passengers on board the TER were unharmed. Delays of about an hour are to be expected and replacement buses are being put in place. The TGVs take another route via Bayonne, in order to bypass this area.

On the coast

In Biarritz, where precautions had been taken on the coast with the deployment of the “big bags” at noon, no incident was to be deplored. The most feared episode was expected on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

In Bidart, the Uhabia got out of its bed at Bassilour. The street is closed to traffic near the mill. Further rainfall amounts are expected tomorrow, Thursday, December 9.

Site closures and postponements of events

In Saint-Jean-de-Luz, due to strong winds up to 80 km / h, and strong waves that can lead to a risk of submersion, the Ducontenia park is closed and its access prohibited, until Thursday, December 9 at 10 a.m., as well as the beach of Erromardie, from the car park, on the same dates and times.

In Bayonne, the City has announced the cancellation of the Christmas activities initially planned for this Wednesday, December 8, in the Hauts-de-Bayonne district, at the Breuer residence. The festivities are postponed until Friday, December 17, at 5:30 p.m.

The prefecture of the department warned yesterday against an episode of rains and showers expected from mid-morning on Wednesday. These showers will be sustained until this evening, “with an hourly intensity of the order of 5 to 10 mm in places and with accumulations of precipitation which are added to those of the previous night”, indicates the prefecture.

The alert runs until Thursday, December 9 at midnight.
