The autumn part of the highest Slovak football competition Fortuna League is slowly coming to an end. After 17 rounds, the defender of the Slavs sits at the head, behind whom there is one, relatively unexpected team next to Trnava.

At the beginning of the season, few people would predict that Ružomberok will also be in the forefront of the 12-member peloton. MFK players present themselves with fighting and effective football, which is reflected in the results.

The Liptovs have won up to eight of the last ten league duels, in addition to which they have scored one draw and a loss. They managed all this with an impressive score of 23: 5.

“Even in the absence, they can complete the basic line-up with suitable players and they can always be a little lucky. However, they have quality, which they confirm. The atmosphere in the cabin must be fantastic. I think that few people expected that Ružomberok would appear on such a place after the 17th round, “said Martin Markič, a TV Markíza expert on the Fortuna League.

A clear idea of ​​a newcomer

The main engineer of unexpected success is especially Peter Struhár. The young, only 37-year-old coach is a newcomer among professionals, with MFK leading since the summer. Immediately after his arrival, he declared offensive and aggressive Ružomberok. According to him, this is still being fulfilled.

“Currently, we have the best attack with Slovan, which we confirm in every match. The last three duels have shown that we are very strong in the offensive even in moments when the opponent is withdrawn on the defensive. We can get through his defense with nice individual actions or standard situations, “he told tvnoviny.sk.

He added that from the very beginning he had a concrete idea in his work. “First of all, we needed to analyze how we work. Our goal was to intensify the game in terms of attacking and playing at a higher intensity. In practice, this means that teams that are not used to this do not catch up with us. It often happens that the opponent’s players have cramps or stretch their muscles, “he clarified.

Defender who likes the offensive

The carpenter is a former excellent tracker or defensive midfielder. It is therefore a paradox that he is the proponent of the offensive. “Football is moving in this direction. We also want to build on secure defense and at the same time have speed types that are better able to assert themselves in attack. We play quite high, thanks to which we are the best team in taking the ball in the middle of the opponent, “he explained.

Maybe this also helps to get one good result after another. “Ruža” is riding on a three-match winning wave and in the last ten duels she scored an average of 2.3 goals per game. The carpenter named two reasons. “We improved efficiency, the problem was that we were not completely targeted. The second key factor is that every player has been in very good shape in the last duels, whether they are a defender or an attacker. “

“Slovak” team

Pod Čebraťom, unlike other teams, relied on purely Slovak players. The only legionnaire is Tihomir Kostadinov, a North Macedonian.

Supports include an experienced tracker and team captain Ján Maslo, a promising right back Lukáš Fabiš, the most busy MFK player, goalkeeper Ivan Krajčírik, who already has nine clean accounts, but especially Martin Regáli.

The 28-year-old Prešov is maturing in performance. While he scored 11 goals last season, he now has seven on his account. In three November duels, he scored three goals and earned the award VOYO Player of the month November.

Perhaps no one would be surprised by his departure abroad. However, Coach Struhár does not admit such a scenario. “I am not afraid that he will leave during the winter. If that happens, I wish he could improve his money. Of course, we are glad that he is doing well even after the previous successful season, “admits the” greengrocer “Struhár.

He gradually came up with an interesting thing during his time in Ružomberok. “Gradually, my colleagues on the implementation team have a growing feeling that Matin Regáli is not a center forward, but rather a wingman. That’s why we changed his post, which brings us fruit. Although he didn’t feel best in the new position at first, now it’s okay, “said Struhár, who ended his playing career just after the age of 30.

The desire to be a coach

He started coaching almost immediately. As he admitted, he did not hesitate at all. “I studied coaching when I was working in Slovan (2006-2009 – editor’s note). I realized that I had to think about ways to stay in football after the end of my career. Since I love sports and exercise in general, I had no doubt that I wanted to be a coach, “admitted a newcomer to the Fortuna League.

In the end, he stated what is important for every coach. “You should go through the youth categories at the beginning. In a few years, he may run into his former trustees and find out where he has moved them. “
