Covid today South Korea, new contagion record: Omicron variant worries

South Korea exceeded 7,000 daily coronavirus infections for the first time, marking a new record since the outbreak of the pandemic, according to data from the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (Kcda). Specifically, the Kcda reported 7,175 new infections from Covid-19 recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 489,484. The previous record of infections was recorded on Saturday, with over 5,350 new positives. In the last 24 hours, 63 new deaths related to Covid-19 have also been recorded. 4,020 deaths have been confirmed since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 840 seriously ill patients. South Korean Prime Minister Kim Boo Kyum reported in a government meeting dedicated to the health emergency that 80% of the total confirmed cases have been reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, where the occupancy of beds in intensive care is 84.5%, while at the national level it is 78.7%. Omicron variant, of which 38 cases have already been reported. On Monday, Seoul introduced more restrictive measures against the coronavirus, in an attempt to slow the spread of the variant. In the capital and surrounding areas, private meetings were limited to just six people.
