The quarantine and the PCR test, at the discretion of the health authorities of both cantons, apply to everyone who has stayed on the campus of the Geneva International School in Founex this week. According to the school’s website, Founex enrolls around 1,500 children and young people between the ages of three and 18 who come from more than 80 countries. However, schoolchildren from Geneva, 25 kilometers away, also visit the site.

Both confirmed cases are closely related to the family of a positive person who returned from South Africa. In addition to students, their parents and siblings must also be tested for the presence of this variant of the virus. The Swiss government announced on Friday that it will cancel the mandatory quarantine from Saturday after arriving from countries where the omicron variant occurred. According to her, this measure no longer makes sense, as the omicron is already circulating within Switzerland itself.

Switzerland has introduced travel restrictions

In this context, AFP notes that a large number of skiers in the Swiss resorts are tourists from Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands, who were also on the quarantine list. People who are already in isolation can interrupt it immediately, but they must go for a PCR test. Following the detection of several omicron cases in five cantons, Switzerland has introduced travel restrictions for the South African region and mandatory quarantine for people coming from 23 countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom and Canada.

All persons coming to Switzerland must prove a negative PCR test and fill in the entry form. They must then take another test on the fourth to seventh days. Exceptions to these rules are granted to persons coming from border regions in neighboring countries, ie Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Liechtenstein.

The AFP agency recalls that around 340,000 people come to Switzerland every day to work. The Swiss government has also decided that unvaccinated foreign tourists from high-risk regions of the Schengen area will not be able to enter the country.
