As of Monday, December 6, all schools in the Bratislava Region are moving from the second grade to the distance method of teaching – ie the 2nd grade of primary schools and all secondary schools and conservatories. The reason is the deteriorating epidemic situation and therefore the Regional Office of Public Health has decided to take this unpopular step. Many criticize this step, however, Bratislava has the highest vaccination rate in the whole of Slovakia. The mathematician Richard Kollár also criticized this step.

And precisely because many students or teachers were responsible and they could be vaccinated, or they already have immunity in the form of overcoming the infection. As I read in one of the discussions, Slovakia is probably the only country in the world where a fully vaccinated or almost completely vaccinated class cannot go to school, but unvaccinated people without an overcome illness can go to work with a weekly antigen test of any type. The mathematician pointed out that children are the least at risk during a pandemic because they have fewer contacts outside school than adults. In addition, several studies have confirmed that children only in rare cases have a severe course of illness, after which they would have to end up in hospital. On the contrary, in adults this risk exists to a much greater extent. “There is probably no better evidence of what values ​​Slovakia shares in the long run, nor of what its future will be like. The Minister of Education himself also responded to the words mathematics. For several days now, he has been criticizing the actions of regional hygienists, who are massively closing schools. According to him, all countries in the European Union understood that every day at school counts, taking into account UNICEF reports and recommendations of the World Health Organization or the experience of past waves. “In Slovakia, however, domestic and foreign experience, all agreements and facts have been ignored in recent days. Again, instead of the adults who are the problem of the pandemic, children are dealing with rescuing the adults. The latest decisions of the RÚVZ go against the rules that have been set. They ignore the situation at individual schools and, in the case of the Bratislava region, even completely deny the vaccination coverage and the status of the epidemic in the district, “ wrote Gröhling.

He pointed out that regional hygienists had closed all schools in several districts, even those where there were 0 quarantined classes, and transferred them to online teaching without first assessing the situation at the school. He notes that if they did, they would simply identify schools where the epidemic situation is bad and where it is stable or good. He added that the Bratislava region is the most vaccinated of all and the 7-day incidence is declining here. Nevertheless, older students cannot learn full-time.

“The fact that young people’s education is thus insensitive to education is deplorable. In many countries, even in a tough lockdown, schools have remained closed. We have a soft lockdown, where adults who are not vaccinated have a number of exceptions and can go to work with a 7-day Ag test. But students suddenly remain at home by the decision of the RÚVZ, “ Gröhling is angry, who also pulled out statistics – in the Bratislava region, 62 percent of the population over 12 years of age is vaccinated, the total vaccination rate is 64 percent and 77 percent of teachers have a vaccine. The capital has two jokers, Senec, Malacky and Pezinok, one at a time. According to Gröhling, this did not weigh in the decision-making of the hygienists either.

Last week, 67% of schools did not have a single quarantine class. Now, for their efforts, everyone responsible has received a “reward” in the form of closed schools indefinitely. ” concluded Gröhling.

Due to new information, the parents also established a petition for the opening of older years in the Bratislava region. They justify this by saying that the children were locked up at home for a long time in the first two waves, which has a big impact on their education and well-being, vaccinations in all districts in the region are high and the school traffic light worked well. They further argue that it is not yet clear when the schools will be closed and they also rely on experiences from other countries where closing schools has not been necessary despite tough lockdowns. In a few hours, 348 people signed the petition and their number is gradually growing.
