Eric Ciotti and Valérie Pécresse qualified for the second round of the LR congress in charge of investing the right-wing presidential candidate, announced Thursday, December 2, party president Christian Jacob.

The deputy for Alpes-Maritimes won 25.59% of the vote, and the president of Île-de-France 25% in the first round of the ballot, against 23.93% for Michel Barnier, 22.36% for Xavier Bertrand and 3.13% to Philippe Juvin. After a second round on Friday and Saturday, the name of the candidate will be announced on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Eliminated in the first round while he was a favorite for many observers, Xavier Bertrand quickly supported Valérie Pécresse in a tweet, calling on the party to rally behind her.

The first round of voting, which opened at 8 a.m. (7 a.m. GMT) on Wednesday, ended Thursday at 2 p.m. (1 p.m. GMT). The participation rate was 80.89%. The second round will start Friday at 8 a.m. (7 a.m. GMT) and end on Saturday at 2 p.m. (1 p.m. GMT). The name of the winner will be announced around 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. GMT).

A first major meeting is scheduled for December 11, Porte de Versailles, in Paris, to mark the entry into the running of the candidate Les Républicains.
