At present, 80 percent of pupils in schools attend full-time education, and 20 percent of schoolchildren in distance learning. The Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic, Branislav Gröhling, informed about it on Wednesday after the government meeting. As he noted, currently the regional public health authorities (RÚVZ) have suspended teaching in schools in 11 districts, with five to seven more to be added.

Updated 12:59 At the meeting today, the government approved the proposal of the Minister of Finance Igor Matovič to introduce a 500-euro voucher for seniors over the age of 60 as a reward for vaccinations against COVID. “As a motivation tool to support the vaccination of people over the age of 60 who are at risk in connection with COVID-19, it is proposed to provide them with a vaccination voucher of EUR 500. They will also be able to give this voucher to another natural person, e.g. children or grandchildren, ” it is written in the material.

Gröhling said he regretted that the schools were closing down. The limit of public expenditures approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic should already be reflected in the process of compiling the public administration budget for 2023 and subsequently also in its adjustments. This follows from the draft amendment to the Act on Budgetary Rules, which is submitted to the Cabinet by the Ministry of Finance. The legal norm follows on from the amendment to the Constitutional Act on Budgetary Responsibility, which has been awaiting parliamentary approval for a long time.

The Ministry of Education wants to improve the allocation of normative financial contributions to founders of schools and school facilities intended to finance personnel costs and operating costs. It wants to achieve this through a draft government regulation laying down the details of the breakdown of funds from the state budget for schools and school facilities.
