Slovenia suspended vaccination with Janssen in September after a woman died of a brain hemorrhage and blood clots just days after vaccination. The panel confirmed in the report that the woman had died as a result of immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia caused by the vaccine.

“The temporary suspension of the Janssen vaccine that is still in force will become permanent,” Minister of Health Janez Poklukar announced at a press conference after the commission published its findings.

AstraZeneca will probably also get a stop sign

Slovenia will “most likely” stop using the AstraZeneca vaccine, said Bojana Beovicova, head of a group of government vaccine consultants. The AstraZeneca vaccine uses viral vector technology similar to the Janssen vaccine and is also associated with rare cases of blood clots.

A few days after being vaccinated with Janssen, the wife of a Slovenian diplomat in Paris also died in May. Since September, thousands of people have taken part in protests against anti-pandemic restrictions and plans to introduce compulsory vaccination in Slovenia. About 54 percent of the country’s two million people are fully vaccinated.
