The teenager was charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl in the center of the English city of Liverpool, police said. The news was brought on Monday by the news agencies PA Media and DPA.

Ava White was with her friends in town on Thursday, after they went after the Christmas lights. She suffered “catastrophic injuries” in the attack at 20.39 local time (21.39 CET), Merseyside police said.

Only a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is now charged with murder. He attacked with a sharp-bladed object. The boy is in custody and will appear in court on Monday (November 29).

Three other boys, aged 13 to 15, were also arrested and released on bail. The case is under investigation.

“We are also working to ensure that no one posts or names on social media that could adversely affect the justice that Ava’s family wants,” said Chief Investigator Sue Coombs, adding that she did not want to jeopardize the investigation.

At the same time, Coombs called on anyone who caught the incident itself or the scene to send pictures or records to the police on the web.
