GENEVA. The European Car of the Year 2022 award has seven finalists. Car journalists selected them from 39 registered models.

Although there were several novelties with internal combustion or hybrid engines, up to six electric cars eventually advanced to the finals.

These are mostly so-called halo models, which are supposed to be the manufacturer’s showcase and show what they can do. It is also true that these are the first products of the new generation of electric cars. In the past year, several of them came on the market.

Thus, the Korean pair is not missing in the selection Hyundai Ioniq 5 a Kia EV6, Škoda Enyaq iV, the first electric Cupra Born, Renault Mégane E-Tech, but also Ford Mustang Mach-E.

She feels a little lonely this time Peugeot 308 third generation, which is available in petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions. Later, a purely electric version will also hit the market.

By whom Autobest poll focuses on the best value for money and what the car can offer for it, the overall impression of the European Car of the Year is important. Design, technology, safety, driving characteristics, performance, but also emission requirements are evaluated.

According to the conditions, the car must be presented 12 months before the announcement of the winner and on offer in at least five European markets with estimated sales of at least 5,000 cars per year.

The winner is decided by a jury of 60 automotive journalists from 23 European countries. The selection criteria focus on price, design, comfort, safety, technologies used, but also on ecology.

France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy a Spain they have the largest representation in the jury, each with six journalists. Slovak journalists are not on the jury this year either.

We will find out the winner for 2022 on Monday, February 28 in an online broadcast. The announcement of the 58th year of the survey will not be part of the Geneva Motor Show due to the pandemic.
