The vote also calls for measures for the omicron variant.

BRATISLAVA. Proposal of the Minister of Finance Igor Matovič to support vaccination against the disease Covid-19 for seniors in the form of a voucher worth 500 euros, the Hlas party considers it ineffective. The party therefore proposes its own form of support. This was stated by the party chairman at a press conference on Monday Peter Pellegrini.

According to Matovic’s proposal, the state should give a voucher for 500 euros to people over the age of 60 who will be vaccinated by mid-December. If they receive the third dose by Christmas, they will take over the voucher immediately, those with the first or second dose until a week later, when they receive the third. Vouchers could be missed at the facilities most affected by the pandemic.

What Pellegrini suggests

However, according to Pellegrini, pensioners will need funding to cover increased energy charges and rising food prices, rather than recreation and other services. The vote therefore proposes splitting the voucher into two separate amounts.

The sum of 200 euros would go directly to the account of every senior who receives a retirement pension, regardless of their vaccination status. Another 300 euros should go to those Slovaks over the age of 60 who can be vaccinated.

Pellegrini calls for measures for omicron

The Voice also called on the government to take immediate action and put in place clear measures to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus variant called omicron in Slovakia. Pellegrini called for an extraordinary government meeting on Monday.

According to him, control should be introduced not only for people who have returned from high-risk African countries, such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Israel, Hong Kong and Seychelles.

As the omicron variant has also been confirmed in European countries, Pellegrini calls on the government to introduce a mandatory quarantine for Slovaks returning from other foreign destinations.
