The post office draws attention to a new type of fraudsters, calls for caution – PRAVDA.sk

The upcoming Christmas holidays, intensified by the current lockdown, motivate Slovaks to shop online.

This is used by fraudsters, who again act on behalf of the post office and ask their clients for their credit card details. Slovenská pošta therefore calls on people to be careful not to respond to suspicious e-mails or SMS messages.

Slovenská pošta has already registered approximately 30 different types of fraudulent e-mails that pretend to be from the post office. Recipients are asked to pay for the delivery of the shipment, change the delivery or deposit of the shipment, at other times also to pay customs duties, the opportunity to win valuable prizes in the competition or to participate in the survey and win cash.

“Slovenská pošta never demands payment of any fees via e-mails or SMS, not even for customs procedures or VAT. The client pays for the shipment either when ordering the goods or when taking over the shipment at the post office, courier or in the Package Box, “stressed the post office spokeswoman Iveta Dorčáková. According to her, this is also the case when paying customs duties and VAT – the client pays them when taking over the shipment.

The post office therefore urges citizens to be vigilant and urges them to check carefully where the e-mail is sent from. According to Dorčáková, the questionable address of phishing e-mails clearly indicates that this is a fraud. Clients can find samples of fraudulent e-mails and SMS on the Slovak Post website.
