INNSBRUCK – Spanish tennis players do not defend the Davis Cup triumph. This was decided by their Sunday 1: 2 loss to Russia in Madrid, which pushed the home team to a non-progressive second place in the A-group table. Marcel Granollers and Feliciano Lopez lost in the decisive doubles to the duo Aslan Karacev, Andrej Rubľov 6: 4, 2: 6 and 4: 6.

The Russians will meet Sweden in the quarterfinals of the prestigious team competition on Thursday, which secured the promotion as one of the two teams from the second ranks. The second is Serbia, which will face Kazakhstan in the fight for promotion to the semifinals. The other quarter-final pairs are Great Britain – Germany and Italy – Croatia.

The Germans in the F-group defeated the Austrian home team in Innsbruck 2: 1. Their triumph was decided by the final doubles, in which Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz scored a point.
