I. Matovič thinks that the situation will not improve and the lockdown will be extended – TVNOVINY.sk

Finance Minister and Prime Minister Igor Matovic (OĽANO) does not think that the bad epidemiological situation will improve by Christmas. According to him, the lockdown will therefore be extended. However, the government will have to decide. He stated this on Sunday’s discussion show TA3 In Politics.

According to Matovič, we are still managing the fight against the pandemic, we are not standing out from the surrounding countries, but it could have been better. However, in terms of the number of victims and the economic consequences, it speaks of unnecessary damage. He claims that he has always listened to the opinions of experts and that, in his words, they advised to close schools now. He marked the failure to take this step as an error. He stated that we have twice as many positive school children as elsewhere. He called the schools a “covid seedbed”.

He criticized the coalition SaS, which, according to him, vetoed the closure of schools. “We could not even vote because they threatened to leave the coalition,” he said. He also perceives negatively that the measures were withdrawn and the children did not have to wear a veil at school. He talks about an irresponsible decision. Asked if the schools would close from the new year, he said he did not want to overtake.

As for vaccination, according to Matovič, delusions spread in Slovakia and “we lost the duel with Robert Fico (Smer-SD)”. He criticized the opposition for not helping the vaccination motivation much. In addition to Fico, he also mentioned the leader of Hlas-SD, Petr Pellegrini, and the chairman of ĽSNS, Marian Kotleba. He currently considers it necessary to obtain people who have “succumbed to delusions” for vaccination. He also noted that motivating vaccination was and is mainly the role of the Ministry of Health.

At the same time, he again criticized the Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský (OĽANO nominee). According to Matovič, the minister must now reap what he sowed. He does not think it would be good to change the head of the department during the peak of the third wave of the pandemic. He repeatedly stated that ex-minister Marek Krajčí (OĽANO) managed the pandemic better. However, he said there would be no political will to return.
