Omikron: So far, 13 cases have been detected in the Netherlands – SME.sk

HAAG. The Netherlands has confirmed 13 cases of infection with the new variant coronavirus omicron. Australia also detected two cases of the disease on Sunday.

Both countries have uncovered omicron in people who came from the south of the African continent.

The Dutch Public Health Office said that so far the omicron variant had been found in 13 people who arrived in the country by air from Of the Republic of South Africa.

These people belong to a group of 61 passengers who tested positive for coronavirus on Friday after arriving at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. They immediately put them in isolation, most of them to a nearby hotel, and sequencing is done.

The Australian authorities said that the omicron variant was detected in two passengerswho came to Sydney from Africa.

Although much remains to be learned about the new variant, researchers are concerned that it could more easily circumvent the resilience provided by vaccination and could mean that the pandemic will last longer than expected.
