Also thanks to the cult Mexican Ride, for which the screenplay, together with his brother Carlos, won an award at the Venice Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar. His scifi thriller Descendants of the People was also a success, and his film Gravity then won several Oscars, including directing. Another gilded statue was collected by Cuarón in 2019 for black and white drama from the 1970s Roma.

Today, Cuarón is one of the most important figures in Mexican cinema, along with Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu. In the black-and-white film Roma, he returned to his childhood by the beach in the Mexican town of Roma, to his mother tongue and to filming negatives.

The promising director Cuarón started on Mexican television and quickly established himself in Hollywood. Among other things, he made a film adaptation of the classic story of Charles Dickens of Great Hope (1998) with Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert de Niro, and collaborated on the screenplay of Hart’s War with Bruce Willis. His American debut Little Princess was named one of the best films of 1995.

In 2013, his sci-fi film Gravity starred in cinemas with Sandra Bullock starring in cinemas. The film received seven Oscars the following year, which was the most that year. In addition to the Oscar for directing for Cuarón and for the best film, he scored mainly in the technical categories. In 2015, Cuarón’s film Desierto (Desert) about a group of Mexican migrants won the International Federation of Film Critics Award at the Toronto Film Festival.
