Omicron variant, New York declares a state of emergency

South African variant Omicron, the State of New York in the USA has declared a state of emergency as an exceptional measure to deal with the new variant of the coronavirus. The state governor, Democrat Kathy Hochul, was one of the first country officials to make a decision about the new variant of the virus. Read also US President Joe Biden himself called this decision a “precautionary measure” given the rapid progress of this variant, and invited the citizens of the country to be vaccinated. “We need more Americans of all ages to receive this life-saving protection,” he said. Just yesterday, immunologist and advisor to US President Biden, Anthony Fauci, in an interview with ‘Nbc’ stated that the Omicron variant may already circulating in the US: “I wouldn’t be surprised. We haven’t detected it yet, but when you have a virus that shows this level of transmissibility and you have travel-related cases already detected in other places, it’s almost inevitable that it gets everywhere.”
