Weather forecast: 11 departments in orange snow and ice vigilance – The HuffPost

WEATHER – Winter is approaching. On this Saturday, November 27, Météo France placed orange snow and ice on vigilance eleven mountain departments, direct consequence of a weekend marked by falling temperatures and precipitation to come.

Nothing abnormal at the end of November, specifies the meteorologist who evokes a ”non exceptional episode, but sufficiently notable to cause disturbances, in particular for the circulation in medium / low mountain, even in valleys with regard to the Massif alpine”.

In detail, the departments concerned are: Ain (01), Ariège (09), Corrèze (19), Creuse (23), Haute-Garonne (31), Isère (38), Puy-de-Drôme (63), Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64), Hautes-Pyrénées (65), Savoie (73) and Haute-Savoie (74).

Indeed, while it snows “lightly” this Saturday afternoon on the Alpine and Pyrenean massifs from an altitude of 500 to 800 meters, the falls will intensify during the weekend.

“The north of the Massif Central, from Creuse to Puy de Dôme”, will be the first area where snowfall will intensify, before the Pyrenees then finally the Alps and the Jura. It is on these last two massifs that the snow will fall the lowest since there will be flakes from 300 to 400 meters of altitude, even occasionally at the bottom of the valley.

According to Météo France forecasts, the precipitation episode should last until Monday morning. Over the weekend as a whole, the Pyrenees should receive the most snow (locally 70 to 80 centimeters on the west of the massif at more than 800 meters above sea level).
