11:05 p.m .: “This is the experience!”

“I find it difficult to travel light.” David, an experienced trail runner at Les Echets, tells about his first half of the LyonSaintéLyon, completed in 13 hours. And it details everything it takes in its small bag to eat, hydrate and, possibly, to stand on your feet in the event of a layer of snow. Video below.

23 hours : double start!

It is not yet the main event (which will start at 11:30 pm, let us remember), but a lot of runners are starting right now. The Saintexpress (46km) and the Saintésprint (23km) depart respectively from Soucieu-en-Jarrest and Sainte-Catherine.
Do you have a friend among these brave people? You can track it on livetrail.

10:50 p.m .: “How are you doing Green Cap?”

Alexandre Boucheix (alias Green Cap), holder of the title of the LyonSaintéLyon, recounts his day before heading back.
For those who haven’t read his awesome interview this week, it’s here.
And to listen to it halfway, it’s below.

Editor’s note to the office: the guy looks totally fresh, remember that he just ate 78bornes.

10:30 p.m .: Go little ones!

But it would not be time for the departure of the Saintétic (13km) ? A thought for our few colleagues from Progress who have embarked on this sporting bet (some were a little afraid) and are currently leaving the starting area in Chaponost in the cold at the start of the night.

22:28: “It’s been a hell of a day, anyway!”

Volunteers are everywhere at the Saint-Etienne exhibition center, with such availability and a smile. Cathy, Lyonnaise, is participating in her 2nd SaintéLyon in the organization. With one of her acolytes, she recounts their precious role in logistics and this long day launched since dawn. They also heal endurance.

22:25: the weather report

The snow did not fall for very long on the plain and is starting to melt. Which will not be a gift. We let you imagine the state of the trails after the passage of this happy herd of thousands of trail runners …

22:22: “We’re not going to bother him, he’s sleeping there”

Claire and Inès, wife and daughter of Léonard, runner of LyonSaintéLyon (156km) native of Tours, tell about their fundamental role of accompanist and the state of form of this participant after 78 km of efforts. During this time, he is resting a bit.

10:15 p.m .: On the food side, “I have the impression that everything is off to a good start!”

Two volunteers from Lyon are responsible for feeding the runners of LyonSaintéLyon (156km) and reveal the prepared menu. SaintéLyon, there are nearly a thousand volunteers throughout the course for the 15,000 runners. Video interview:

9:55 p.m .: “How do you feel after 78 terminals? Tell us about it!”

LyonSaintéLyon (156km)
Nicolas, Jurassien living in the Paris region, has already competed in 100 km trails and has a SaintéLyon to his credit. But he discovered the LyonSaintéLyon and halfway through, he wondered about his chances of returning to the Tony-Garnier hall. We listen to it

9.45 p.m .: “So the best is snow or rain?”

LyonSaintéLyon (156km)
A video testimony from Hakim, from Mulhouse, who participates in his first ultra and already has mummified feet halfway through (11:30 am to arrive in Saint-Etienne). “I launched this challenge with a friend who wanted to score points for the Diagonale des fous, but it’s out of the question, it will be my first and last!”, He said after his interview.

9:35 p.m. : mid-term care at LyonSaintéLyon

About fifteen students from the Saint-Etienne physiotherapy school provide care to the runners of the LyonSaintéLyon (156 km) who have reached the halfway point. For the moment, no major injury observed. Tendonitis, but no sprain or major physical problem. Podiatrists are also on the alert. Already, we logically see beautiful blisters … and it’s in line behind because runners always arrive at this moment.

9:30 p.m. : snow at the rendezvous

It’s been a few tens of minutes since the snow appeared in Saint-Etienne … and it already seems to hold in the plain. This is promising for the heights, especially at Signal de Saint-André (934 m), the highest point.

SaintéLyon live: let’s go

9:30 p.m. : welcome to our site to follow the SaintéLyon 2021 races all night long, with our journalists on site.

She is back! One year after cancellation due to pandemic, SaintéLyon resumes its rights in the night from Saturday to Sunday. More than 15,000 runners are part of the “party” on the five formats: LyonSaintéLyon (156 km), SaintéLyon (78km), SaintExpress (46km), SaintéSprint (23km) and SaintéTic (13km).

Winter conditions are expected including snowfall. A priori, a few centimeters should cover the Monts du Lyonnais. Very cool temperatures down to -6C felt are announced due to a west / north west wind of 35 to 45km / h.

The runners of the LyonSaintéLyon (2nd edition) left this Saturday at 9:00 am from the Halle Tony Garnier. They took the direction of Saint-Etienne on the course in the opposite direction. They make the outward journey in “liaison” mode, that is to say without chrono or classification before racing on the return trip with all the other runners of the SaintéLyon.

The start of the SaintéLyon will be given from 11:30 p.m. at Parc Expo Saint-Etienne.

The SaintExpress starts at 11 p.m. from Sainte-Catherine, the SaintéSprint at 11 p.m. from Soucieu-en-Jarrest and the Saintétic at 10:30 p.m. from Chaponost.

For this 67th edition, the organizers have mapped out a 78km course in the tradition of SaintéLyon alternating paths (65%), small roads (17%) and roads (18%). Emblematic site of the “Doyenne”, the Bois d’Arfeuille is being retracted this year. But the runners will climb the Signal de Saint-André-la-Côte, the highest point (934m above sea level) of the event.

The main favorites

LyonSaintéLyon: Grégoire Curmer (1st in the Diagonale des Fous 2019) forfeit, the victory should be played between the defending champion Alexandre Boucheix (alias Green cap) and Arthur Joyeux-Bouillon.

SaintéLyon: Double winner in 2013 and 2015, Benoit Cori is the big favorite in the absence of defending champion Cédric Fleureton, Emmanuel Meyssat (1st in 2016 and 2017) and Lyonnais Baptiste Chassagne. Cori will have to be wary of Thomas Cardin, the German Hoffmann, the Italian Cheraz, the Grenoblois Nicolas Daru. On the regional side, Dominique Renda and Melvyn Bracon are the main chances. For women, Sarah Vieuille is forfeited and leaves the place of favorite to Sandrine Fléchet (2nd in 2019).

SaintExpress: A match is expected between Hugo Altmeyer, Sébastien Hours and the Belgian Florent Caelen. Lucille Germain, winner this year of the MCC, is expected in the women.

SaintéSprint: Xavier Chevrier (multiple Italian champion and European champion in 2017 in mountain racing) and the Lyonnaise Anaïs Sabrié (French mountain racing champion and French trail short champion).
