Brazil approves the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine for people over 12 years of age

(CNN) – The first vaccine for children 12 years and older was approved by the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) on Thursday.

The Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine was authorized after evaluation of studies carried out outside of Brazil, according to ANVISA, and was the only vaccine approved for use in people under 18 years of age.

Brazil received 2.3 million doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine this week, which will be distributed to all states in the coming days. In total, the pharmaceutical company has delivered 5.9 million doses to the country and the government contract provides for a total of 200 million doses by the end of the year.
