Booster dose for all adults: the campaign opens this Saturday, what you need to know – South West

Faced with the surge in Covid-19 cases in France, the government had to take new braking measures. They were announced this Thursday by the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran. The most important concerns vaccination. The campaign for the booster dose officially begins this Saturday, November 27, as more than 34,000 new cases were identified on Friday.

A third dose, for whom?

From this Saturday, all adults over 18 years of age can receive a booster dose. This is most often a third injection, except for people vaccinated with Janssen or for those who have been infected with the coronavirus.

A total of 25 million French people are eligible for this booster dose, which is not mandatory. Six million have already received it, the campaign being open since September to over 65s and people with co-morbidities. For 12-17 year olds, nothing changes. They can still be vaccinated but are not affected at this stage by the third injection.

From when ?

While until then, it was necessary to wait six months after his last injection to receive his booster dose, the rule has now been increased to five months. The government has indeed followed the recommendations of the High Authority for Health. Clearly, if you received your second injection on July 1, you will be able to receive a third dose from December 1.

What if I have been infected?

For people who have been infected with Covid after being fully vaccinated, authorities recommend that an additional dose of vaccine be injected five months after infection, and not five months after the previous dose.

Where to get vaccinated?

For this booster dose, you are spoiled for choice. You can go to all health professionals authorized to vaccinate in town: doctors, midwives, nurses and physiotherapists. Not to mention the 15,000 pharmacies in the territory and the 1,100 vaccination centers that are still open. In addition, Thursday, Olivier Véran announced that the government would “put in place vaccination barnums in shopping centers”.

With which vaccines?

The booster must be done with a messenger RNA vaccine, that is to say either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna. But be careful, the Moderna vaccine can only be administered to people over 30 years of age. According to a study, this vaccine may slightly increase the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis in younger children.

How long does the pass remain valid?

From January 15, 2022, the booster dose will be mandatory for the health pass to remain valid. On that date, the pass will be deactivated for those who have not had their booster dose at most 7 months after the last injection. For example, someone who received their second dose on July 1 may have their third dose as of December 1, and will necessarily have to do so before February 1, 2022 to keep their pass.

The principle is the same for those over 65, but from December 15th.

People who make their recall will have a new QR Code which will be valid 7 days after the injection. The preceding remains valid during this period of time if the reminder has been made within the previously mentioned deadlines.
