Prepare for the first snowflakes, first frosts and winter temperatures. No “cold wave” yet, according to Météo France, but a first notable episode of winter at the end of November with the first snows in the plains.

Météo France has already placed the ten departments of the region since 4 p.m. Great East in snow and ice vigilance until Saturday same time. Thus, Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Vosges, Meuse, the two Alsatian departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin and the former Champagne-Ardenne are getting ready to see snow coming.

First snowflakes on Friday evening

From 20 to 40 cm from Saturday in the Vosges, 3 cm in the plain

Most of the snowfall is expected on Saturday, according to Météo France. Thereby, in the plains it is necessary to expect from 300 meters from 1 to 3 centimeters. Snow disturbances “will cross [la région] slowly enough, virtually all areas of the region should be affected, ”according to the forecaster. The episode will take place in “traine” and will then concern the east of the region, in particular Alsace and the Vosges.

The snow continues on Sunday, episode ends on Tuesday

As for the snowfall, it will continue on Sunday, November 28 throughout the Grand Est. Only the Ardennes department could escape the snow.

This will then be confirmed on Monday until Tuesday, November 30. In the afternoon, for the end of the episode, it is especially Alsace and Lorraine that will be concerned.

The beginning of next week will be marked “by a rise in temperatures which will be above seasonal norms from Tuesday”, according to the forecaster of Météo France Nord-Est.

Winter tires compulsory in hundreds of municipalities

With this major snowfall, it should be remembered that winter tires are compulsory in several hundred municipalities in the region: in Moselle, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin or even in the Vosges.

This is the case in 65 municipalities of Moselle, 143 communes of the Vosges, 140 in the Haut-Rhin and 130 in that of Bas-Rhin. Theoretically, you risk a fine of 135 euros in case of control but the government has announced a winter without penalty for the first year entry into force of the new rule.
