Health crisis in Gironde: wearing a mask becomes compulsory again in Bordeaux and Libourne – South West

THEnobody missed the exercise. After five months of calm, this Friday marked the return of the special press point devoted to the health crisis, organized at the prefecture. In a context of viral circulation “very active”, according to Véronique Billaud, deputy director general of the Regional Health Agency, the prefect of Gironde, Fabienne Buccio, announced some measures including the return of the compulsory mask in the hearts of city ​​of Bordeaux and Libourne from this Saturday. The State representative also recalled the importance of barrier gestures in this context of renewed epidemic.

Wearing a mask, in all public places subject to the health pass, is required again since Friday. No containment, no curfew, or no gauge are currently envisaged. But important gatherings will also be subject to wearing a mask, like the sporting events of the next few days, such as the UBB-Toulouse poster, on December 4 at the Chaban-Delmas stadium, where more than 30,000 people are expected.

Vaccination reminder at the Bordeaux-Lac shopping center

In order to “stop the spread of the virus”, the vaccination campaign must be encouraged in order to meet the estimated needs of 300,000 injections each week in New Aquitaine, over the next two months. The 18 vaccination centers already open in the department are therefore maintained. Two spaces must also reopen, one in Mérignac, the other in Arès. In addition, barnums to benefit from a booster of the vaccine “during the races” must be installed in certain large shopping centers in Bordeaux. A first must be operational from this Saturday in Bordeaux-Lac. A second is being considered in Mériadeck.

Controls will intensify

The epidemic situation, although “worrying”, is not alarming for the time being. The incidence rate in the department rose to 260 per 100,000 inhabitants but the number of hospitalizations remains contained: this Friday, there were 183 people hospitalized due to Covid, including 44 in critical care. During this press point, some figures were also communicated on the situation in schools. In Gironde, this Friday, 218 classes were closed, including four in college. 727 students were declared positive for Covid against 455 last week. This represents 148 positive children (out of approximately 75,000) in college and 61 positive students (out of nearly 55,000) in high school.

Faced with this epidemic resumption, the State services have finally announced an intensification of controls, in the days and weeks to come, on the application of the measures while recalling that the police had not remained inactive since the beginning of last August, when the health pass was activated in France. In Gironde, over the last four months, 2,450 establishments and 27,500 people have been checked, resulting in 84 violations noted and four administrative closures pronounced.
