Outbreak of urban violence during the night of Thursday 25 to Friday 26 November in Martinique – Martinique the 1st – Overseas the 1st

Martinique experienced another night of riots with serious abuses: barricades on fire, burglaries and damage caused by fires, systematic racketeering of motorists near roadblocks.

Tense situation in the territory

There were several violent clashes between rioters and the police. Individuals targeted the security forces with gunfire. The gendarmes retaliated with flash ball fire and tear gas grenades.

Dams were removed at Schoelcher, at the Ozanam roundabout, at Case-Pilote, at Saint-Pierre in Saint-Joseph.

In a press release the Parquet of Fort-de-France reports that during the night, a police officer who was working with his colleagues on a burglary, was violently hit by the looters’ vehicle. He is seriously injured and is operated on this Friday.

The gate of the prefect’s residence was set on fire by hooded individuals: the rapid intervention of the police made it possible to limit the damage.

Four journalists from the national press suffered three shots from men riding motorcycles in Fort-de-France, while they were filming and taking photos of a fire dam.

Arrests

Looting continued this 4th night, and targeted several food and telephone businesses throughout Martinique.

In Fort-de-France, Auchan Dillon was robbed.

Individuals have entered the Carrefour Express and an Eco Max.

The police arrested 11 people for the facts of last night (chase in Fort-de-France, looting, degradation …)

The first investigations opened following the events of the night of Tuesday 23 to Wednesday 24 November resulted today in the presentation of three individuals to the parquet floor of Fort-de-France. They will be judged in immediate appearance for carrying a category B weapon, damage by fires, violence with weapons on persons holding public authority and their placement in detention will be required. These appearances may or may not be deferred depending on the progress of the proceedings. The other investigations are continuing under the direction of the magistrates.

The announcement of a new meeting with the prefecture was made by Bertrand Cambusy, the spokesperson for the intersyndicale, this Friday morning in the 7 hours newspaper of Martinique la 1ere radio.

The Martinique inter-union demands the withdrawal of the law on compulsory vaccination and the health pass. The first attempt at discussions with the prefect, in the presence of the president of the executive council of the CTM, was not conclusive.
The inter-union affirms that the elements brought during this meeting are not conclusive.

The two parties will meet again this Friday, November 26, 2021
